Jukie Chin grew up in Jamaica, and patties were one of his favorite foods. He used to buy one each afternoon on his way home from Glenmuir High School in Clarendon. At 14, he had a dream, He wanted to create a patty of his own. One that was richer and more flavorful. But there was more to his dream. He also envisaged a future where he owned his own brand of patties and provided a customer experience that was friendly and fulfilling. He even told his buddies that he would run his own patty-making business one day.

Jukie’s journey to Juici Patties began in the 1970s in his mother’s kitchen, where he combined his passion for Jamaican food and his drive to become an entrepreneur. At 16, he began selling his homemade beef patties in the family grocery store. The premium-quality patties soon caught on, and Jukie’s dream grew.

The First Juici Patties Store Opens its Doors

In May 1980, the first Juici Patties store said hello to Jamaica in May Pen, Clarendon. Although the store had only three employees –  a baker, a cashier, and Jukie himself – the team was primed for success. With their combined culinary and business skills, determination, and desire to provide their community with the best Jamaican food at an affordable price, Juici Patties made a sure hit. And their customers kept coming back for more. 

By the time Jukie reached his 20s, he already had stores in several parishes. He was already proud of his accomplishments, but the demand for his patties grew in other areas. Several of his friends asked him to consider franchising his business. 

Keeping Food Quality and Safety Real

During this time, Jukie always maintained the importance of maintaining high food safety and manufacturing standards. In 1994, the company took another giant leap by building its first Juici centralized quality and manufacturing plant, allowing rapid growth. Less than ten years later, Juici Patties had already become the only fast food franchise located in all 14 of Jamaica’s parishes.

Today, the Juici Patties Jamaican restaurant franchise’s success is growing strong. The company plays an active role in the Jamaican community sponsoring multiple youth sporting and educational programs, the Elderly Soup Feeding Program and Juici Patties Youth Leadership and Volunteer Program. The Juici Patties Group, including its franchises, now employs over 1400 persons in 60 stores island-wide.
